According to Dean Spasser, if you’re in business, chances are you have at least a little experience with direct mailings. St. Louis’s Dean Spasser helps clients find valuable direct mailing lists, even advising clients that a bad list is worse than no list at all.

One resource that Dean Spasser always recommends is the Direct Mail List Rate and Data (DMLRD). Published six times per year by Standard Rate and Data Service, as Dean Spasser informs clients, the list is available at many libraries for free use. This book provides a thorough list of direct mail lists available for rental, Dean Spasser says, as well as the price for each list and contact information. According to Dean Spasser, this is an up-to-date list of legitimate mailing lists that he highly recommends.

“This resource book drives home just how big the mailing list business really is,” St. Louis businessman Dean Spasser relates. “Almost anywhere a person gives money, enters a store contest, or buys a lottery ticket, there is a mailing list recording the information for rental.”

As Dean Spasser points out, even churches share information with mailing lists. When a member of the congregation tithes, Dean Spasser says, the contact information that goes into that collection plate may end up on one of these rental mailing lists available through the DMLRD.

Having up-to-date contact information is crucial for a successful direct mailing, Dean Spasser urges. According to St. Louis resident Spasser, the Direct Marketing Association estimates 24% of households change addresses each year, rendering last year’s mailing lists ineffective. Using the DMLRD to find the best mailing lists is essential to a successful direct mail campaign, Dean Spasser says. Find a reputable company and rent the most current list to fit your client base.

St. Louis resident Dean Spasser also warns against mailing lists that are overused. “The more times a list has been mailed to, the less responsive it becomes,” Dean Spasser advises. Consumers today are inundated with mailings, according to Dean Spasser, and if everyone is hitting the same group of people, those people are more likely to toss your ads in the trash. To avoid getting lost in a pile of junk mail, Dean Spasser tells clients to look for high quality, up-to-date mailing lists.

About Dean Spasser

St. Louis entrepreneur Dean Spasser has dedicated the last two decades of his professional life to the serving people through a direct mail marketing business. In the early 1990s, Dean Spasser saw the need for a centralized hub of trustworthy home worker information. Spasser witnessed, and personally experienced, the frustration that hard working Americans were feeling in their quest for financial stability. Dean Spasser’s St. Louis, Missouri-based firm, American Publications, offered people a comprehensive list of reliable work from home opportunities. Dean Spasser’s company provided information about which corporations and small businesses were hiring remote workers and warned about which companies were nothing more than a scam.

Dean Spasser’s real estate background as a commercial leasing agent in St. Louis gave him valuable people and business experience. Dean Spasser spent ten years uniting shop owners seeking affordable retail space with malls looking to fill empty slots. Additionally, as a real estate professional, he helped St. Louis office buildings thrive by effectively marketing workspace to business owners. Dean Spasser soon saw he had a talent for successfully matching groups searching for each other, and set out to build his own home based business focused on bringing employers and workers together. Dean Spasser continues those efforts today.

Educationally, Dean Spasser earned a degree in Business Accounting from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Spasser graduated in 1982 after working his way though college while finding time to actively participate in academic and other activities, including his fraternity. While Dean Spasser was a student in St. Louis, an interest in finance played alongside a desire to succeed by planting seeds that root this well-rounded businessman today. Spasser is grateful that he chose to pursue an accounting degree, as it helps him manage his business responsibly.

Living in St. Louis, Dean Spasser considers himself fortunate to be surrounded by a great music scene, as he is an accomplished guitar player. The Busch guitar studio in St. Louis is Dean Spasser’s favorite place for gathering with like-minded individuals, relaxing with a 6-string, and plucking off retro rock tunes and jazzy beats. Dean Spasser’s passion for fitness is another aspect in his life he takes pride in. Working out and staying away from his weakness, potato chips, are two small choices he makes to keep his body healthy.

For mental well being, Dean Spasser is passionate about literature and performing arts. Sydney Sheldon’s novels and screenplays are among this St. Louis businessman’s favorite entertainment materials. Architecture is another interest of Dean Spasser; St. Louis has the Gateway Arch, a masterfully designed courthouse and a variety of eclectic structures sprinkled though the city and its surrounding suburbs. Dean Spasser is sometimes found at the Arch, thoughtfully reflecting on the sheer manpower and ingenious design implemented in its construction.

Dean Spasser is active in the St. Louis community, and donates his time and money to organizations like the Red Cross and Salvation Army – both of which have branches in St. Louis. Above all, Dean Spasser cherishes spending time with his daughter.

It’s a car lover’s dream job. And Gregory Leb is definitely a car lover. An avid collector of vintage and new Porsches and Ferraris, when Gregory Leb landed the job as marketing director of Lamborghini North America, he knew he was living the dream of men all over the world.

As marketing director for Lamborghini’s Jacksonville division, Gregory Leb had regular brushes with V.I.P.s. Reba McEntire once bought a car from Gregory Leb, as did Donald Trump in 1997. But one of the most impressionable moments as marketing director was his dealings with Nicolas Cage, delivering cars to him during Gregory Leb’s time as marketing director. Cage is a big collector of Lamborghinis.

Another highlight of Gregory Leb’s career with Lamborghini was a deal with Universal for eight TV shows with the Diablo Roadster. The Lamborghini Diablo was a high-performance sportscar built by Lamborghini in the 90s. Known as the first Lamborghini able to exceed speeds of 200 miles per hour, it was replaced in 2001 by the Lamborghini Murciélago.

At the time Gregory Leb was working with Lamborghini, the Diablo Roadster was generating quite a bit of buzz among mainstream media. Debuting in 1995, the Roadster had a carbon fiber top that retracted into the engine lid when it wasn’t being used. The Roadster was only in production until 1998.

When Lamborghini was bought out by Volkswagon, Gregory Leb took a position as a freelance marketing coordinator for Walt Disney World in Orlando. But Gregory Leb’s love for automobiles continues, and he travels around the country in his vintage Porsche, racing along with other Porsche aficionados in Historic Racing Society (HRS) races. Gregory Leb also collects Ferraris and is a member of both the Porsche Club and the Ferrari Owners Club.

About Gregory Leb

Gregory Leb, Sissine’s Office Systems’ national account representative, is committed to a simple motto, “Live well, and serve well.” An avid car collector and longtime cross fitness enthusiast, Gregory Leb has lived his life with a focus toward appreciating common things and embracing his good fortune.

Every man needs a man. For Gregory Leb that man was his stepfather who was a boxer in the Navy. Gregory Leb was naturally drawn to athletics as most young men are. For Gregory Leb athletics included the study of boxing. Encouraged by his parents, he started his boxing career with the Jacksonville, Florida police athletic league, working his way up to Super Middle Weight by his mid-teens. Gregory Leb continues a health oriented lifestyle that includes boxing which he says could add up to more than twenty-nine years physical fitness that has included boxing. Among his sports heroes he includes boxing greats such as Manny Pacquiao, Mohammed Ali, and Roy Jones, Jr. Gregory Leb continues to be active in a local Jacksonville gym specializing in martial arts, and self-defense; disciplines that benefit from Greg’s early passion for boxing.

Gregory Leb has been employed by Sissine’s Office Systems since 2006. As national account manager, he represents the Northwest Florida and South Georgia region’s top supplier of Lanier and Copystar brand copiers. Sissine’s has been in business for 25 years, with an emphasis on providing office automation solutions to businesses. Prior to his employment with Sissine’s Office Systems, Gregory Leb was a freelance marketing coordinator for Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida and marketing director for Lamborghini North America in Jacksonville Florida. During his time with Lamborghini, Leb was able to secure a deal with Universal for eight television shows with the Diablo Roadster. A life well lived indeed.

Gregory Leb’s interest in cars extends far beyond his employment with Lamborghini. He regularly participates in specialized auto racing around the country. He is a member of car clubs and has inherited a passion for collecting both vintage and new sports cars from his father who is also a car collector.

In addition to his love of cars, Gregory Leb also has a deep love for golden retrievers. He has a golden retriever named Molly who is two-and-a-half years old, which he bought from a breeder in Georgia. He and Molly live in Pointe Vedra Beach, right outside of Jacksonville.

As busy as he is, Gregory Leb puts a high priority on his charitable work. He is involved with the Mary Saulzbacher Homeless Shelter in Jacksonville, as well as Second Harvest Food Bank’s Lutheran Social Services. He supports both United Way and Cathedral Foundation Meals on Wheels.

Fitness, passion and charity have combined to shape a life that does embrace his simple motto; live well, serve well.

Have you ever had a great idea and shared it with someone, only to have your dream shot down? Well meaning friends and family can certainly be discouraging to a would-be entrepreneur. In fact, many barriers to starting a company are built on the back of “truths” about the pitfalls and challenges that surround running your own business. Are they really true, or are they simply myths? Bobby Martyna, who serves as the CEO of Tradavo takes a look at some of them and shares his opinions on the matter.

For instance, if you are about to start off in business you may have been told:
“So many businesses fail. Why risk it?”
“Aren’t you going to have to go way into debt to start your business?”
“Why are you throwing away job security when the economy is so shaky?”

Bobby Martyna would be the first to agree that being an entrepreneur and running a successful business can be tough and there are definitely hurdles to cross, but he would like to invite some common sense into the debate. Here are just a few of the myths that Bobby Martyna has come across in his many years as an entrepreneur.

You Won’t Have a Personal Life

Yes, you will! It will be challenging to juggle the responsibilities of running your own company without neglecting time with the family, but at the end of the day, you will have much more flexibility with your personal life than any company-employed individual will ever have. Proper balance will be found if you have the time management and planning skills to get things done so you can enjoy time spent with your family, says Bobby Martyna.

You Have To Be Cunning and Ruthless To Be a Successful Entrepreneur

While these kinds of tactics may benefit you in the short term, this is not a sound, long-term strategy. Bobby Martyna knows from experience that to be a successful entrepreneur you need to build solid, honest relationships with both customers and suppliers who will then stick by you during hard times. Cutthroat pricing may get you one or two good deals but you are unlikely to build a lasting and profitable relationship. Your aim should be to strike a balance between what makes you the most money and what benefits your customer or supplier.

You Won’t Have To Work As Hard

Your current job may be stressful and subject you to 50 or 60-hour workweeks. Perhaps the idea of running your own company is appealing because you believe it will allow you to slow down and take life at your own pace. While this perception may be somewhat true, there is no getting away from the fact that being a self-employed entrepreneur is very hard work. Most small businesses don’t achieve profitability until at least the third year. Remember, if was easy, everyone would be doing it! What does make the difference, according to Bobby Martyna, is that you will be doing something you love and so the hours and the struggles won’t seem like such hard work after all.
