Oceans2003: What can you tell us about our southern neighbor?
The Perfect Vacation Source: Well, most people aren’t aware that Mexico is an amazing and diverse country. It has gorgeous beaches and lovely historic towns.
Oceans2003: Where would you advise visitors to go in Mexico?
The Perfect Vacation Source: If you’ve never been to Mexico before, we would suggest starting with Ixtapa. It’s a gorgeous beach resort that used to be a coconut plantation. Ixtapa is a bustling city with plenty of nightlife.
Oceans2003: What other cities do you love?
The Perfect Vacation Source: Definitely Guadalajara. It’s an ancient area that’s come roaring forward to become a city of the future. It has ornate churches, amazing architecture and fantastic food.
Oceans2003: What can you tell us about the Mexican Riviera?
The Perfect Vacation Source: Our staff members love the city of Mazatlan.
Oceans2003: Is Mazatlan known for anything particular?
The Perfect Vacation Source: Some tourist favorites are nighttime fishing, hiking and ocean views. And it has spectacular golden beaches.
Oceans2003: Is there a lot of culture in Mazatlan?
The Perfect Vacation Source: Oh, definitely. There are museums, historical sites and one of the tallest natural lighthouses in the world.
Oceans2003: We’ve heard Mexico has several well-known communities of artists…
The Perfect Vacation Source: Yes. One of our favorite artistic communities is San Miguel de Allende.
Oceans2003: What makes it so special?
The Perfect Vacation Source: Well, it’s a quaint town with a long history of American expatriates.
Oceans2003: When did it become a fashionable place for American ex-pats?
The Perfect Vacation Source: It became a go-to place for American soldiers after World War II. The G.I. Bill was expanded to let soldiers study on foreign soil. And since there were two art schools in town that attracted soldiers-turned-artists, and writers. And that in turn attracted more artists and writers.
Oceans2003: That’s really interesting. Does the town have any folklore?
The Perfect Vacation Source: Well, it was the home of (Jack Kerouac inspiration) Neil Cassady. And it’s rumored that Kerouac and Ginsberg stayed there too.
