Many men worry that ED is an unavoidable part of aging that can and will eventually eliminate their sex lives altogether. That just isn’t so, says Dr. Paul Perito. He has successfully treated thousands of men with his minimally invasive penile implant technique, which is an exceptional option for those wishing for a quick recovery time. In an exclusive interview he speaks candidly with Oceans 2003 about the procedure, and explains how to achieve a natural looking erection using the Titan OTR penile implant.
Oceans 2003: Dr. Perito, thank you for chatting with us today. You are very well known for your methods that reduce cutting and recovery time. How long ago did you begin the minimally invasive procedure?
Dr. Paul Perito: I’ve been doing the procedure for over ten years. To date, I have restored sexual function to more than 4,000 men who saw no results from other treatments, like Viagra or Cialis.
Oceans 2003: We already know that your procedure minimizes the amount of tissue dissection. Can you tell us what that means in terms of recovery?
Dr. Paul Perito: It offers clients an expeditious recovery. As an added benefit, there’s less postoperative pain.
Oceans 2003: What are some of the important differences in your procedure versus a traditional penile implant?
Dr. Paul Perito: One of the critical steps in my procedure is the rapid inflation of the implant. This is important because at this point you can see for functional cosmetic result of implant is adequate, if the cylinders are at the mid-glands.
Oceans 2003: Does this rapid inflation have any other benefits?
Dr. Paul Perito: Indeed it does. It allows you to seat the back of the implant. Seating the back of the implant is probably the hardest part of this procedure as described by one of my esteemed colleagues, Dr. Andrew Kramer. The rapid inflation serves to push the back of implant down, especially in someone that’s deep in the back.
Oceans 2003: And what if the implant does not fit the patient?
Dr. Paul Perito: The size of the implant is based on initial measurements taken of the patient. There are extenders if needed, but I try not to use them.
Oceans 2003: Why is that?
Dr. Paul Perito: I don’t recommend using a lot of rear tip extenders because the weakest part of the implant is the junction between the rear tip and the cylinders. The cylinders of the Titan implant are where you get the axial strength of the implant. So the fewer rear tip extenders utilized the less hinging effect you get on the penis and the more anatomical your erection is going to be.
Oceans 2003: These implants are pump operated, where exactly does the pump go and why?
Dr. Paul Perito: I Place the pump in the center of the scrotum. (Dr. Perito shows a set of slides to the interviewer). You want all pumps to be midline, dependant and posterior so that while there are discrete, they are still easy to operate.
Oceans 2003: Why is that so important?
Dr. Paul Perito: It is important, especially in obese patients because it can be difficult for them to inflate their implants if this surgical outcome is not achieved.
Oceans 2003: It sounds as though you have thought of everything to expedite the process and get patients back to normal in no time.
Dr. Paul Perito: I’ve certainly tried. The original procedure is brilliant, safe and efficacous; however, I do feel that my technique has many advantages. I have been blessed to have performed thousands of successful procedures that support this claim.
