Traumatic Tooth Loss Doesn’t Have to Affect Adults Long-term, Say the Naperville Dentists at Dr. Gibson and Associates

All Naperville dentists, including family and cosmetic dental expert Dr. Chiann Gibson, undergo extensive training on traumatic tooth loss. They say that, if the proper steps are followed, a tooth that is knockout may be re-implanted successfully. Recently, the Naperville dentists offered a few tips on what to do in case of an oral emergency.

1.            According to the Naperville dentists, is important to never touch the root of a tooth that has fallen out. This can introduce bacteria to the root and possibly cause degeneration of the tissue. If the tooth has gotten dirty, it is vital to avoid removing the debris by rubbing. The Naperville dentists say that any sort of abrasive material on the tooth should be left alone so that it does not damage the surface of the root. It’s important to keep in mind that if the root is damaged it is less likely to be accepted by the body, say the Naperville dentists.

2.            Dr. Gibson and other Naperville dentists advise never rinsing the tooth in running water, instead, dip it in and out of a bowl of lukewarm tap water. If possible, replace the tooth immediately in its socket. This is the best possible place for a tooth that is been dislodged, report the Naperville dentists. If the tooth does not seem to fit snugly into the socket, gently bite down on gauze or a teabag. This will hold the tooth in place until a dentist can be reached, points out Dr. Chiann Gibson.

3.            Most Naperville dentists say that, if it isn’t possible to replace the tooth into its socket, then there are a couple of options to hold the tooth for transport. The tooth may be placed in milk, salt water solution, or the saliva of the individual it belongs to. According to the Naperville dentists, preservation is the key to successfully reattaching the tooth.

4.            Sometimes even the most diligent efforts will not eliminate a total tooth loss due to trauma, acknowledge the Naperville dentists. The good news is that there are a variety of options for restoring a patient’s smile. Dental implants are one of the best options to replace one or more teeth as they look and feel natural. In fact, no one will ever know it isn’t a real tooth, reports the Naperville dentists. There are also bridges and partial dentures. Dr. Chiann Gibson and the Naperville dentists at Smiles by Dr. Gibson offer full mouth reconstruction for more serious cases.

5.            The Naperville dentists at Smiles by Dr. Gibson and Associates note that it is imperative to seek treatment as soon as possible and that saving the tooth is always the first priority. However, even with proper preservation and the help of a good dentist the loss of one or more teeth does not have to cause long-term disruption in a patient’s life. Dr. Chiann Gibson agrees with other Naperville dentists that a missing tooth is hard to live with. But given the medical advancements of the last few decades, most patients don’t have to.

One of the best Naperville dentists, according to a recent poll by area patients, is Dr. Chiann Gibson of Smiles By Dr. Gibson.
