7 Tricks from Furniture Store Experts to Make a Small Bedroom Look Bigger

January 22, 2022 By admin

The Linen DuckWhether it’s your master bedroom or a guest room, in a condo unit or single-detached house, there are ways to make a small bedroom feel bigger. The interior designers at nearby Franklin furniture store, The Linen Duck, share their tried and tested tips.

Think vertically

Drawing the eye upwards makes a bedroom seem more spacious. Create visual height by using built-in shelves that extend from the floor to the ceiling. Invest in a tall headboard and hang artwork above the bead. You can also add thin, floor-length curtains to your bedroom.

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Mirrors can fool the eye into thinking a bedroom is so much bigger than it actually is. You can use mirrors in different ways: add mirrored closet doors, hang a mirror over the dresser or the bed, or group small mirrors on a wall.

Go for a monochromatic color scheme

This is an excellent choice if you want to make a bedroom look spacious. Instead of bold prints, try using textured fabrics such as luxurious velvets, flannels, or slubby linen in solid colors. Add trims and tapes to pillows and curtains to spice things up.

Pro Tip: An all-white bedroom always looks fresh and airy.

Cut the clutter

Clutter can make a small bedroom look even more cramped. Open up your bedroom by letting go of anything you no longer use or need.

Rethink where you place your rug

Place your rug at the foot of the bed and have only half the bed sit on it. This creates an elongated effect, tricking your eye into believing there is more space and what is actually available.

Try floating nightstands

Instead of nightstands with bulky legs, the floating versions create the illusion of having more space.

Be smart with lighting

Large lamps may not work in a small bedroom as these can be clunky. An alternative would be adding sconces or pendant lighting over the bedside tables. If you are not ready for additional electrical work, there are wall sconces that can plug right into your existing outlets.
