Is Your Child Struggling? A Boarding School Might Be The Answer

July 3, 2020 By admin

Currey IngramMany parents are facing the challenge of having a child struggling in a public school system. There are many possible factors that make it so: it could be the quality of education, the child’s needs, or current family circumstances. Enrolling a child in a boarding school could help resolve these struggles.

Boarding schools champion individualized learning.

Parents are looking for an educational curriculum that constantly challenges their children to learn, think out of the box, and not just pass a test to move along to the next level.

Boarding schools like Currey Ingram Academy in Brentwood believe that each student learns differently and must be taught accordingly. Each student at Currey Ingram Academy has an Individualized Learning Plan that takes into consideration the student’s strengths, challenges, and academic performance.

Unlike in public schools, Currey Ingram Academy identifies the performance levels of each student within the curriculum standards for each class. As such, some classes have only two students, while others might have eight.

Boardings schools provide students with opportunities to explore the arts.

The arts are an integral part of a boarding school’s creative curriculum. These create safe spaces where students can discover their talents, pursue their passions, and build the confidence they need to be successful in life. Through fields like visual arts, music, photography, theatre, and video production, students develop essential life skills such as creativity, collaboration, cultural awareness, empathy, and critical thinking.

Boarding schools are where real-life values are lived out.

Boarding schools give students their first taste of independence and responsibility, both of which are necessary for a successful transition to college life and the world beyond it. Living alongside their peers allows them to practice humility, resilience, courage, perseverance, and kindness on a daily basis – values that are taught in theory in traditional schools, but experienced at Currey Ingram. Additionally, students are also able to establish solid, life-long friendships within the community.

Boarding schools step in to provide academic guidance and support where parents struggle to.

Due to current economic conditions, it’s not unusual to see families with both parents working to make ends meet. There are also parents with demanding careers which require them to travel frequently or work long hours. At the end of the day, they’re too tired to be significantly involved in their child’s studies.

At Currey Ingram Academy, a faculty mentor is assigned to each student. Mentors serve as role models, advocates, and motivators whose presence and counsel serves to encourage students to reach their full potential. Mentors provide students with accountability and encourage them to achieve their academic, social, and personal goals.

Boarding schools provide structure and routine.

Parents raising children with learning differences are at a loss on how to help their child adapt in a public school setting. Studies have shown that children with learning differences require structure and routine to thrive and excel.

Currey Ingram’s residential life community enables students to live, work, study, and play in a safe and structured learning environment.

Students attend four classes a day, five times a week. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday classes are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. while Wednesday classes are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is followed by an after-school schedule, which consists of athletics and extra-curricular activities ranging from clubs to community service opportunities.

Students take part in either a proctored or independent study hall session on weeknights to ensure their readiness for an upcoming class or project.

Weekends are spent exploring nearby Nashville, and will likely involve any of the following activities: attending a professional sports game, hiking and canoeing, watching a live music performance, visiting a museum, or going to the movies.
