|You’ve probably noticed that “green” is everywhere these days. That’s all great as far as most people are concerned, but with so many different messages, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. However, it’s also easy to make a positive impact. Every single thing we do each day has an impact on the planet, for good or bad. The good news is that each person has the power to control most of his or her choices and, therefore, make a positive impact.|
So why wouldn’t anyone want to “go green”? Keep reading for a few green ideas.
Buy “real” food. Eat local, organic foods to enjoy better, tastier, pesticide-free foods. Buying local has global consequences. It means supporting the local economy and reducing the emissions required to get food from its origin to your plate.
Walk more. Anytime you choose to walk, ride a bike, or take public transportation, you reduce the carbon dioxide and particulate emissions created by driving a car. By doing so you can hugely reduce your carbon footprint.
Recycle, just like nature does. More and more people make use of the blue recycling bin, which is a great way to reduce the amount of stuff we consume and provides a way for waste to be reused. By recycling and reusing, we reduce the amount of waste in landfills.
Make smart clothing choices. Making clothing involves a huge amount of energy, materials and labor, including the chemicals used to grow crops for textiles, the dyes and water used for color, and conditions under which laborers work. By purchasing organic cotton you also choose a better product that is easier on the soil and groundwater. Wearing second-hand clothing helps divert waste headed to landfills and saves money.
